The Effect Of Domestic Violence
The Effect Of Domestic Violence
By Maryam Lawal
As an up growing girl, i was an exhilarating feelings for me especially when I get engrossed in the dreams of getting married, building up my own family and living a happy life with them.
But as time goes on I became subconscious I cried bitterly looking into the society, watching our dear women suffer verbally, physical, mentally and emotionally everyday in their homes, sometimes I shed cold tears and felt their pains,I have witnessed, heard and read of so many issues of Domestic violence, i shook my head in pity, I can't grasp the reason why we kept quite and watch such vexatious act taking over our society.
I could remember the case of a neighbor of mine who got into a bloody fight with his wife after she asked him for a little amount of money to feed her and the kids the next thing I hard was a loud sound, the man landed a hot slap on his wife's face followed by brutally punching and biting until blood started gasping out of the woman's mouth and eyes if not for the quick intervention of some neighbors he would have probably beaten her to death!!I was puzzled I didn't knew when those tears started dripping down my cheeks, I wish I could do something to help the hopeless dying woman but I was helpless!! I wish I can make those men out there understand the fact the we are a precious gift and a blessing to them,we should be treated with outmost love and care, real men don't raise their hands on their woman no matter any circumstances.
Just after that incident, I kept seeing countless of cases like that, I recently hard a case of a breastfeeding mother who was beaten plan black by her supposed husband, the picture of her swollen face was so disturbing that I couldn't take a second glance,I felt the pain she was battling with, and just yesterday another story hit me up like a bomb! A young teacher of three who mistakenly stabbed her husband to death due to the ultimate beating she received from him,she stabbed him in the aim of defending herself, she could have walked away from her abusive relationship, but she decided to stay because of her kids and the love she still had for her aggressive husband who never supported or care about the welfare of her and the children including the two months old baby they had,he tortures her at any slightest opportunity, she could have lost her life during one of those numerous beating she receives from him,she never wanted to kill him,she was helpless, she had to defend herself and now she's prone to face the law!! What an injustice!!
Then I thought, where is our right as a woman? where is our freedom of expression? where is our Right to dignity of human persons, Where is our power, pride and hope?where are our prominent dignitaries that are suppose to stand up for us?
Then I thought of this people Chief Mrs Folake Solanke (San),Mrs Funmi Falana,Mrs Victoria Awomola(San),Mrs Kofo Dosekun (San),Mrs Funke Agbor (San),Mrs Funmi Robert, Mrs Hauwa Ibraheem,Mrs Boma Oziona OON,will they fold hands and watch our fellow women die brutally due to Domestic violence everyday? We can't watch them continue like that, what if we find ourselves in such an incorrigible act is this how we would fold hands and suffer in silence?
A bold step in eliminating the act of Domestic violence should quickly be taken in other to save our dear women and also, to stop further regression of such act.
And to all the women going through domestic violence in their homes, you can never fix an abusive relationship, walk out that door when its still very much open for you, take legal actions, don't wait till you get killed,do not endure because of your children, they will surely understand the reason why you took that bold step,do not clung on the hope that he will change like I said you can't fix up an abusive relationship, do not be brainwashed by the people around you,you owe nobody any explanations, you are entitled to your own happiness, get your life back,do not endure in pain, things will get worst over time, you're Worth more dying in pains, run and never look back, you're special and they don't deserve a smart vibrant beautiful woman like you, trust me you will be fine without them
I STAND AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.
