THE MENACE OF SCHOOL FOOTBALLERS IN IWO COMMUNITY
By Akande Bukky
Football as a game seems to be renown in our society that most of our youths found pleasure in playing it unlike basket ball, volleyball and others.
Unfortunately, it is very rare now to find or see a female who have passion for playing football that will be bold to put it into practice due to the violence (such as raping and killing) that always occur whenever their is football match most especially between secondary schools (either junior or senior ll in this recent decade .
It is very sad to see how brutal they turned football game into (starting from the year 2010 when inter-house sport and inter-school sport in public secondary schools were being cancelled) due to the fact that most of the secondary school players doesn't understand the rules and regulations of football as a game. And as a result of this, many were being killed while some were raped (most especially the spectators).
I could recalled when I was still in secondary school when one guy named OPEYEMI was killed by his mates at the stadium (his family and friends tried to retaliate) but all in vain.
I was at my working place on Nov 1st, 2017 at yafoye area in Iwo, where I witnessed a violence scene being caused by team's coach (who happened to be their teacher).
It all started when one of team A passed ball to team B's post and their keeper played his role very smartly by catching the ball, immediately he catched the ball,.... The coach approached the keeper to release the ball to team A' and he obeyed him, where team A' passed the ball again and the keeper wasn't able to catch it so it was awarded a goal.
Goooooooooo !!!!
Aaaaawwnyin !!
"It's a cheat we will never accept", this was what they uttered, before 2mins, they started tackling one another like wrestlers they're real wrestler. They beat, injured each other severely. It was the team effort of their couch that settled the matter.
This made me realised that most of them doesn't understand rules and regulations of football game.
I suggest that Iwo day football for this year 2017 should be cancelled and Iwo team that have become professionals should be appointed to educate our coach and students in secondary and primary schools on the rules and regulations of football.
