NIJA SOLDIER SENTENCED TO DEATH OTHERS IMPRIESIONED AND DE-RANKED

 Army court martial has condemned a serving soldier to death for killing a Boko Haram suspect.

 Lance corporal Hillary Joel was said to have engaged in the act during a search operation by the security men in Damboa local Government Area of the sect hiding 

According to DUTA, news, Hillary set the suspect ablaze.

At the same place four other soldiers were jailed for various offences ranging from, unlawful possession of ammunition, aiding and abetting murder, assault

According to the court  under Brigadier- General Alusegun Adeniyi, said, Private Chima Daniel was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment partaking in the torture and application of pepper on a 13-year-old boy, who later lose, in a bid to make the victim confess to stealing a phone.

His partner, Corporal Audu Aliyu, was de-ranked to a private.

 It was also had that both soldiers had also engaged in flogging two other minors aged 10 and 12 along with the 13-year-old.

The Court Martial also deleted Sergeant Balanga Samuel of his rank for desertion and miscellaneous offences related to the property of the Nigerian Army, tagging his action as “cowardly, unprofessional and unprofessional.”

Balanga reportedly left his unit in Kareto when his unit came under attack losing ammunition in his possession in the process.

The court also gave five years and two years’ imprisonment to run concurrently on trooper Sunday Ogwuche who was guilty of unlawful possession of ammunition while on sick pass to Benue state.
