Breaking: Osun Pensioners Protest Non-Payment Of Entitlements

By Sodiq Lawal

In a renewed hostility against the Osun state government, Pensioners in the state have again taken to major streets in Osogbo,  to protest Non-Payment of their gratuities and pension arrears by the Rauf Aregbesola led government.

The pensioners in their numbers besieged popular Ayetoro road as early  as 7am on thursday and took their Protesting procession through Igbona market to Ajegunle, down to Orisumbare, making their final stop at the popular Olaiya Junction in what they tagged as Operation Occupy Osogbo.

Commuters plying the roads were stranded due to the protest which lasted several, resulted into heavy road traffic.

The protesting senior citizens had over time been accusing  governor Rauf  Aregbesola of being insensitive to their plight by refusing to pay their entitlements and  allowances which they claimed has led to the death of many in their fold.

The renewed protest is hinged on the claim of the pensioners that Aregbesola who  promised to pay them after the receipt of the new tranche of bail out funds reneged on his promise, leaving the  pensioners no other choice than to return to the streets.

Armed with placards carrying different inscriptions like "President Come to our rescue" Aregbesola is a thief" etc, the pensioners led by their chairman Omoniyi Ilesanmi alleged that governor Aregbesola is planning to divert the second tranch of Paris club fund released to state governments.

Omoniyi who noted that the protest was to demand their right, stressed that the protest has nothing to do with politics or politicians.
